Philip Brown Seeks Re-election as Mayor Charlottetown, September 10 – Philip Brown has formally launched his campaign for re-election as Mayor of Charlottetown.
“I am very proud of the steady progress that has been made over the past term, and look forward to continuing to serve the people of Charlottetown,” said Brown. “My priorities over the next four years include such issues as affordability, the quality of life for our residents, and steps to upgrade and improve major facilities that contribute to the health and well-being of our citizens, our economy and our community.”

Brown said the Eastlink Centre will require $55 million to upgrade and modernize, and will serve as a centre for emergency response. A new parking garage with almost 500 spaces will be constructed downtown. He said the bus routes and bike paths will continue to be expanded.

Making the cost of living more affordable is a key goal. Brown said registration fees for sports and recreation programs will see increased subsidies to make participation more accessible for all residents. Charlottetown will continue to build on its partnership with Cornwall and Stratford to share costs and resources, improve efficiencies, and lower expenditures.

“In addition, City Hall will continue to hold the line on municipal tax increases,” said Brown. Charlottetown has adopted a new official plan, the first in over 29 years, and made investments to improve community facilities such as the new Simmons Sports Centre. Actions have been taken to address climate change, with the city adopting a five-year climate action plan.

Over the past four years, Charlottetown has experienced record construction growth. Over that time, new construction has been worth more than $1.1 billion.Brown said his experience as mayor over the past two terms is vital in helping people deal with the challenges they face. “I was born here, received my education here and raised my family here. I will work hard for the continued development of a growing and inclusive community,” he said. “Together, let’s keep Charlottetown strong.”
